Support Swim 1922

Updated: Jun 1, 2021

SWIM 1922, in partnership with USA Swimming, is one of SGRho’s national programs and is targeted at reducing the drowning rates of African American and Hispanic children. One way our sorority and chapter have leaned in to support this effort is by hosting swim clinics to teach youth about water safety. In turn, it is our hope that this engagement and exposure will reduce the number of African American and Hispanic youth’s fear of water and increase their knowledge and participation in swimming.

Did you know? According to USA Swimming, one month of formal swimming lessons, which reduces the risk of drowning by 88%, can cost as little as $50 per child? Your gift of $50 or more will help us meet our goal to assist 50 young people with swimming lessons, water safety training and programming for a week or longer. Furthermore, research shows 64% of African American, 45% of Hispanic/Latino, and 40% of Caucasian children have little to no swimming ability.

Help BLS change this narrative. Will you partner with BLS to make a big splash in our community by increasing the number of swimming lessons and water safety training(s) we offer this year and in the future to our local community?

All financial donations should be directed to the Beta Lambda Sigma Charitable Foundation (BLSCF) which will assist BLS with providing these direly needed swimming lessons and life-saving water safety skills to children of color. The BLSCF is a 501(c)(3) organization (Tax ID 82-5368-58) and serves as the primary fundraising arm of BLS’s community service projects.
